Harry Potter MotW: Best Shop in Diagon Alley

Harry potter month

[This is a slightly delayed response to Leah’s Harry Potter moment of the week. If you’d like to join in, head on over to Leah’s blog!

The theme of this week’s Harry Potter Moment of the Week is “Best Shop in Diagon Alley” – how could I resist?

This is a really hard one, because there are so many great shops, so I’ll be telling you my third place, second place and winner!

Third place: Magical Menagerie

As an animal lover, the Magical Menagerie or Eeylops Owl Emporium both vied for this spot! I am that person who loves going to the pet shop even when I don’t need anything (and I’ve even been taken there as a way to cheer me up during a boring weekend before).  I think I’d have to go with the Magical Menagerie just because they have a wider range of pets and I’m easily swayed by exotic animals!

Second place: Ollivanders

Ollivanders would be amazing – who doesn’t love the idea of going in and having your wand choose you?! BUT it doesn’t make my top choice because for window shopping, it’s not great – why fall in love with a wand that would never choose you (and guaranteed I would regularly do just that)?

First place: Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes

Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes would, I think, be the coolest shop in Diagon Alley. You just know it’d be super interactive, and so much fun to browse and explore.  AND, unlike a lot of the other shops in Diagon Alley, it sells fun things, not just necessary things, so you know you could have just as much fun browsing on a random Saturday throughout the summer with the few coins in your purse, as you could in the chaos of stocking up before Hogwarts. And of course the possibility of spotting a Weasley doesn’t hurt either…

Which do you think would be the best shop in Diagon Alley?

  1. I always liked the sound of Florian Fortescue’s ice cream parlour, myself. Magical ice cream must be quite something!

  3. Awesome picks, all three! I’d go check up on animals, too, just for fun and for cuddles :D Like those rabbits, and shiny tortoises! Don’t see much of those here. Same goes for Ollivander’s, I hope we’d be able to see how wands are made!
And WWW of course, I’d be there all the time :D

  4. These are great picks! I’m listening to the first book on audio at the moment and it’s so nice imagining Diagon Alley all over again! I think Flourish & Blotts would be one of my favourites because BOOKS. And the owl emporium. I WANT AN OWL. Oh, and a wand. Yes. Gosh. Can’t I just live in Diagon Alley? Pleeeeeease?!

  6. Oooh a top 3 – brilliant idea! I went with Ollivanders because I think your first visit there would be so EPIC. But you’re right, after getting your wand, there’s not much fun in going back to window shop – you’d just have to get like wand polish and stuff like that XD And like you, I love animals and seeing different ones would be a natural pick me up…especially with the variety they’d have in magical shops…I might just end up with more than one magical pet! But yeah, WWW is easily a shop where you could waste ages just looking at all the crazy and brilliant items the twins came up with! I have a feeling all our wallets would be lighter after spending a day there :D Awesome picks ^^
